A new beach, with the colour of the skin pulled warmer

We asked for a sunny beach behind a woman in a cream sweater and to keep her face and clothes exactly the same. Nano Banana 2 did the background well: palms, sand, a bright sea. It also re-graded the whole picture, and her skin and hair came out noticeably warmer and more orange than in the original. Face shape and features are unchanged. If skin tone matters, add "keep the skin tone and lighting exactly the same" or compare with Nano Banana 2.1, which left the colour alone.

For the blazer prompt it gave a clean studio look: a light grey backdrop, even lighting, a white shirt under a navy jacket. The framing stayed close to the original selfie, so the face keeps its size, and the face itself did not drift. This took 19 seconds.

Painting

A bright, loose watercolor with blue-green washes

The watercolor prompt came back colourful: blue and green washes behind the face, a light shirt and a soft, open brush style. It is looser and lighter than the Nano Banana Pro version of the same prompt, which is more detailed and quieter in colour.

Natural, slightly muted light

With no photo, the paper boat prompt gave a naturalistic misty pond with a pastel sky and a small boat in the middle distance. It reads as a photograph and not as an illustration. It needed 24 seconds.

Tips for better Nano Banana 2 results

Ask for the colour to stay put. In our beach test the skin came out warmer, so add "keep the skin tone and lighting exactly the same" when you edit a portrait.

Use the wide shapes. 16:9 and 21:9 are offered here and not on Nano Banana 2.1, and 4:1 and 8:1 make banner strips.

Iterate quickly. At about 19 seconds an image you can try several wordings in the time one GPT Image run takes.

When to pick Nano Banana 2

They are different models, not a version bump. Nano Banana 2.1 is the cheaper one at 5 credits and kept faces and colour well; it also gave the most clearly animated Studio Ghibli result in our test. Nano Banana 2 is the faster and steadier one, and the one with 16:9 and 21:9.

Nano Banana Pro costs 10 credits and is the best at keeping a face faithful through a heavy style change.
