What Nano Banana Pro does to a photo

We ran Pro on the same three portraits as every other model on this site. These are the results, not stock examples.

Headshot edit

It keeps the face and rebuilds the frame

We asked for a navy blazer and studio lighting on a casual selfie. Pro kept the face, the hair and the expression, swapped the T-shirt for a blazer and a white shirt, and put the person against a dark studio backdrop. It also pulled the camera back: the shoulders and jacket take more of the picture than in the original, so the face is smaller. If you need the original crop, add "keep the same framing and crop" to the prompt.

PromptPut him in a navy blue blazer with a white shirt, studio headshot lighting. Keep his face unchanged.
  • Face and hair match the original
  • Framing changes unless you ask it not to

Painting

A watercolor with a paper edge and a simplified room

For the watercolor prompt Pro redrew the whole picture rather than laying a filter on it: soft washes, visible brush strokes, a paper edge and a loose, simplified room behind the face. The face stays recognisable, with the likeness carried by the eyes and the hair. If you want a photo that still looks like a photo with a watercolor texture on top, a Seedream model keeps more of the original detail.

  • Background is simplified, not copied
  • About 30 seconds

Clean, quiet light from a one-line prompt

With no photo at all, Pro turned one sentence into a calm morning pond: the paper boat sits low in the frame, the lily pads are sharp, the mist is soft and the sky stays pale rather than orange. It is one of the most restrained of the nine image models we tried on this prompt, which suits product backdrops and quiet scenes and suits a loud, saturated sunrise less well.

Tips for better Nano Banana Pro results

Say what must not change. "Keep his face unchanged" held in all four of our portrait edits. Add "keep the same framing and crop" when the crop matters, because Pro sometimes pulls the camera back.

Choose 2K for a final image: it costs the same 10 credits as 1K, and 4K costs 15.

Draft cheaper first. Try the idea on Nano Banana 2.1 at 5 credits, and run the final pass on Pro once the prompt is right.

When to pick Nano Banana Pro

Nano Banana Pro is the steady one: its timing barely moved across our runs, and in the illustration test it stayed closest to the original face, as a painted portrait rather than a cartoon. If you want an obviously animated Studio Ghibli look, Nano Banana 2.1 did that better.

Choose Seedream 5.0 Pro when a headshot must stay exactly as it is, and a GPT Image model when the picture has lettering in it.
